Band Camp Information
Band Camp Basics
As we will order early this year, students are required to wear their practice uniforms to band camp rehearsals. This will not only identify students as band members it also aids in show visualization.
Be careful of the sun. Use sunscreen! You can't give 100% if you are sunburned. Hats and sunglasses are also highly recommended.
Students should eat breakfast. Marching on an empty stomach is not encouraged.
If your student has any health concerns that we should be aware of please call before band camp starts. Knowing in advance allows us to keep an eye on any students who may have health issues.
Shoes
New students must buy a pair of band shoes. Returning students (Sophomores and up) may continue to wear their current shoes unless they are too worn, or have been outgrown. Students will be sized for shoes on June 27th. Shoes will be passed out on Monday July 20th.
Lunch/Senior Privilege
Students are not allowed to leave school during band camp. Lunch will be provided; it will include sandwiches, trimmings, and drink. Again, students may not leave for lunch, but they can bring their own if they wish. However, if someone bringing you a lunch is late in arriving you must finish it when the lunchtime ends. As lunch is provided we will not wait for people who did not take advantage of this.
The only exception to this is Seniors. They will be allowed to leave for lunch. Non-seniors are not allowed to leave with seniors. If a senior is late returning from lunch they will lose their privilege. Seniors may not bring lunch back for other students.
Water Breaks & Temperature
During outdoor rehearsals a strict policy of WATER ONLY is maintained. We will break regularly and keep an eye on the weather. If the heat reaches levels of concern we will immediately move rehearsals inside. We will keep plenty of water on hand during outdoor rehearsals and provide you with all you need for water breaks. Students who want to bring a thermos with water are welcome to do so, but only water.
Cars & Parking
Students who drive should take anything they need from their car and put it in the band room each morning. Students should NEVER go to their cars during the day.
Equipment
You must have a pencil, reeds, oil, and any other equipment needed for your instrument. We will keep a certain amount of supplies available.
Hazing/Initiations
There will be ABSOLUTELY NO HAZING of any kind. Any “initiations” will be fun activities to help freshmen get acquainted with the returning students. Students caught engaging hazing will be disciplined.
Health/Travel Forms
Students must have a Health/Travel form covering medical information, emergency contact information, and permission to travel with the band. These forms must be signed and witnessed by a Certified Public Notary to be valid. We will sign these forms on Fitting Day.
Band Camp Finale
The final day of band camp includes many fun activities. We will dismiss at early and return that evening at 7:00 p.m. for a band camp finale exhibition. Families and Friends are encouraged to attend!
Payment Box
There is a strict policy against taking any payments personally, so there is a payment box set up in the band office. Students need to put payments in an envelope with their name, amount, and what it is for on the outside, and then place it in the box in the band office. If you do not put your name on the envelope we may not be able to credit the payment properly.
Band Boosters/Parent Volunteers
The Band Boosters is made up of parents and works to provide support for the program by working as chaperones, helping the band prepare for travel, moving equipment, and coordinating fundraisers. Parents are encouraged to attend our Band Booster meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of the month during the fall. This year we will be altering our meeting schedule for the spring to reflect the decrease in booster business during this time.
Voting rights for Booster Meetings require paying the membership dues. Booster Membership dues are $5.00 per family.
Two of our fundraisers involve running the concessions at home football and basketball games. These two opportunities raise almost $10,000 for the program. Eight parents are needed to staff concessions at 6 home football games and two parents for each of 12 home basketball games. The money raised by these ventures is spent on the students and keeps our band fees low (as noted previously our band fees are about half of most bands).
The Directors, School Administration, and Boosters agreed to require each student’s parents/guardians work one concession event. As the money raised in these two opportunities is spent on the entire program it is only fair that everyone be represented.A sign up list will be available at the Fitting Day, the Band Camp Finale, and at all Boosters meetings.
