This letter is to communicate to you as early as possible information for the Fall 2011 Edition of the Sound of Champions, so everyone can make plans!
The band website is located at http://www.grangerband.org. It is an online source for the latest band information. Check the website weekly for information. Stop in regularly.
May & June Rehearsals (5/31, 6/14, 6/21, 6/28)
We have 4 Half-Day Rehearsals on Tuesdays starting May 31st. Tuesdays were selected as they presented the fewest conflicts with vacations, but we understand there are some of these dates when folks may be traveling. If you have a conflict with one of these dates please let me know.
Rehearsals will be half-days lasting from 8:00 a.m. to 12 Noon. We will start these rehearsals outside at 8:00 a.m. and work on basic marching fundamentals. We will then move inside around 9:30 to practice music. These rehearsals are to keep student's "chops" up for playing, develop endurance, and memorize the music for band camp. It is also a great chance for the new students to get to know the veterans. Leadership students will meet from 1:00 – 3:00 on those days.
Fitting Day June 25
On Saturday June 25th from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon at the LHS Band Room we will have a REQUIRED fitting day for ALL students. They will be fitted for shoes, t-shirts, shorts, band uniforms (Auxiliaries will have already measured for their uniforms), and wind suits. A parent/guardian must be there for each student to sign the Health/Travel forms. The $200 Band Fee is due on this date. Returning students will be required to bring their wind suit, shorts, t-shirts, and backpack to be inspected. Worn out items will need to be replaced.
July Rehearsals
BAND CAMP will be held the weeks of July 11-15 and 18-22 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with early out on Friday the 22th! Our schedule will allow time for students to schedule activities, such as doctor’s appointments, registration, and pictures, in the afternoons following rehearsals.
Students need to make their plans now to attend both weeks. Band Camp activities are required and necessary to set up our year. Please do not plan Doctor’s Appointments or other activities during these dates. We dismiss at 4:00 allowing ample time for these. Missing any part of the camp is detrimental to the student, as well as those people counting on them.
Following Band Camp we will have two evening rehearsals on July 26 and 28 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., just to keep fresh on what we learned at Band Camp before school starts.
